From what material are the Parels van Makkum made?
The pearls are poured in a white or coloured porcelain clay and then glazed with various kinds of glaze. White, black, jade, blue and coral are opaque glazes. Platinum and gold are metallic glazes. The used gold is 24 karat.
Who designed the Pearls of Makkum?
Parels van Makkum is a jewelry collection by fashion designer Alexander van Slobbe and the oldest company in the Netherlands: Royal Tichelaar Makkum (from 1572). Alexander van Slobbe designed the pearls in 2005 and in 2006 the first pearls were produced by Royal Tichelaar.
Is there a certificate of authenticity with the Parels van Makkum?
The original packaging together with the invoice with blind embossing are the proof of authenticity.
How can I best store the Parels van Makkum?
It’s best to keep the pearls in the original box. This has a soft cushion which can not damage the glaze. If you would always put the pearls on a hard surface, the glaze could wear off over time.
How to best maintain the Parels van Makkum?
It’s best to polish the pearls with a microfiber cloth. More maintenance is not required. Because it is just a small surface, we don’t recommend the use of cleaning polishes, creams or balms.
Can the pearls break?
The porcelain pearls can indeed break.
Is it possible to put together a necklace yourself?
How can you string the pearls on a cord or ribbon?
On the photo you can see how you can string the pearls the easiest. Use a crochet needle that is as thin as possible, maximum 1.5 mm or for example a skewer. Stick the end of the cord or ribbon at the end of the crochet hook with a small piece of tape, as tight as possible. Then pull the crochet hook with the cord or ribbon through the pearl or pearls and detach the crochet hook from the cord or ribbon. If the cord or ribbon now rattles a bit at the end, melt it again by carefully passing only the end through the fire of a lighter or match.

We strive to deliver the package within three working days. For shipments abroad the expected delivery period is maximum seven days.

Yes, you can, provided that the pearls are only unpacked and used to assess whether you want to keep them. The pearls may not be damaged and there may not be obvious signs of use.

Who pays the costs of a possible return?
The cost of returning goods shall be borne by the buyer. You can choose yourself with which shipping company you want to return the pearls.
If you want Mikropakket to pick up your return, send an email to info@parelsvanmakkum.nl with the pickup address and the preferred date of the parcel to be picked up. This can be from the first coming workday. On the day the package is picked up, you will receive an email from Parels van Makkum with the expected pick up time. If you want to arrange the return via Mikropakket, the return costs will be deducted from the purchase price.
